Guy Holloway, Assistant Chief Executive at North Northamptonshire Council, shares his thinking on how human intelligence and artificial intelligence can come together to help us work smarter as an organisation. Watch his vlog below.

Start with the problem, not the technology

One of our objectives is to work smarter as an organisation, and working smarter is really about combining people, processes and technology. Too often we reach for a technology solution first, asking which tool or which AI product we can use, when the better starting point is to ask what issue we are actually trying to resolve.

Technology and AI clearly offer great opportunities, and they are transforming the way we do things, but the aim is better outcomes for our residents, not better technology for its own sake. We also need to look at the human element, the management component and the way we deliver services before we jump to a technological solution.
